September Climate Solutions Hub Volunteer: Thursdays and Saturdays

At Solana Center, we are on a mission to create a sustainable future by providing valuable resources and programs to our community. Join us as a volunteer to make a difference in promoting eco-conscious choices. We are currently seeking dedicated individuals to assist us during our public hours, when community members are able to purchase supplies for composting and water conservation, utilize our tool lending library and Green Convene dishware rental program, and take a self-guided tour of our site.  By lending a hand during our operating hours, you'll play a vital role in delivering our services to the public. 

We invite you to join us during our open hours on Thursdays or Saturdays at our Center. As a volunteer, your responsibilities may vary depending on the needs of the day. Here's what you can expect:

  • Collaborate with Solana Center staff to set up and break down staging areas for our programs

  • Greet visitors to our Climate Solutions Hub

  • Lend a hand as needed to help with our Store, Tool Lending Library, and Green Convene serviceware lending programs

  • Assist with garden maintenance (weeding, watering, harvesting fruit) and general site cleanup

  • Share resource information about options for proper recycling and disposal of other types of unwanted items

  • Help to keep our collection sheds organized, and our signage up to date

Volunteer Shifts

Note: You may use the same registration for to sign up for any open shifts in Septemer. The first page of the form will collect your personal information, and you will be taken to a second page to select your shift(s).

Shift Times (these are the same on Thursday and Saturdays):

  • 1st half: 11:45 am - 2:00 pm

  • 2nd half: 2:00 pm - 4:15 pm

  • Entire shift: 11:45 am - 4:15 pm (you may sign up for both halves)

Opportunity Requirements & Important Notes:

Age Requirements: Volunteers must be at least 16 years old. Volunteers under the age of 18 must have their parent or legal guardian fill out the waiver on their behalf.

Experience Needed: No prior experience required, but you should be comfortable interacting with the public in a "customer service" type of role. Some familiarity with Solana Center is a plus. If you're new to our organization, please inform our staff upon arrival.

Prerequisites: Volunteers must review the Vounteer Requirements and the Code of Conduct portions of Solana Center's Volunteer Handbook

Physical Requirements:  The ability to lift up to 20 pounds is preferred, but not required.

Attire: Dress comfortably, wearing clothes that can handle some dirt. Closed-toe shoes are necessary. Please also consider the weather conditions, as some tasks may take place outside.

Bring: Bring a reusable water bottle and, if preferred, your own work gloves.

Other: Please be on the lookout for an information email 1-4 days before the event with any additional details. If you can no longer make the event and need to cancel, please let the volunteer coordinator know as soon as possible so we can give your spot to another volunteer.

Volunteer Shifts

Fridays: 10:00 am - 11:30 am

Age Requirements: Volunteers must be at least 16 years old. Volunteers under the age of 18 must have their parent or legal guardian fill out the waiver on their behalf.

Experience Needed: Basic gardening experience is appreciated.

Workshop Volunteer: Raising Backyard Chickens - El Cajon

At Solana Center, we believe in the power of outreach to educate and inspire others about sustainable practices such as composting, low-water landscaping, and food waste prevention. By volunteering with us, you can play a vital role in engaging workshop attendees, demonstrating techniques, and sharing our free resources. Join our team and make a positive impact on our community and the planet!

Workshop Topic: Raising Backyard Chickens

Volunteer Responsibilities:

  • Set up and break down the demo site to create an engaging workshop environment.

  • Assist in advancing PowerPoint slides or managing our educational chart for seamless presentations.

  • Engage attendees in interactive activities related to the workshop topic, fostering a hands-on learning experience.

Opportunity Requirements & Important Notes:

  • Age Requirements: Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.

  • Prerequisites: Volunteers must review the Vounteer Requirements and the Code of Conduct portions of Solana Center's Volunteer Handbook.

  • Experience Needed: Must be comfortable speaking with the public in a workshop setting.  A passion for environmental education, climate change prevention and a general understanding of the workshop topic.

  • Physical Requirements: Be ready to embrace hands-on work with worms, compost critters, and various outreach materials. You should also be able to comfortably lift up to 20 pounds.

  • Attire: Please wear comfortable clothes suitable for standing, considering the weather and event location.

  • Bring: Don't forget to bring a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated, and feel free to pack snacks for break time.

September Climate Solutions Hub Volunteer: Thursdays and Saturdays

At Solana Center, we are on a mission to create a sustainable future by providing valuable resources and programs to our community. Join us as a volunteer to make a difference in promoting eco-conscious choices. We are currently seeking dedicated individuals to assist us during our public hours, when community members are able to purchase supplies for composting and water conservation, utilize our tool lending library and Green Convene dishware rental program, and take a self-guided tour of our site.  By lending a hand during our operating hours, you'll play a vital role in delivering our services to the public. 

We invite you to join us during our open hours on Thursdays or Saturdays at our Center. As a volunteer, your responsibilities may vary depending on the needs of the day. Here's what you can expect:

  • Collaborate with Solana Center staff to set up and break down staging areas for our programs

  • Greet visitors to our Climate Solutions Hub

  • Lend a hand as needed to help with our Store, Tool Lending Library, and Green Convene serviceware lending programs

  • Assist with garden maintenance (weeding, watering, harvesting fruit) and general site cleanup

  • Share resource information about options for proper recycling and disposal of other types of unwanted items

  • Help to keep our collection sheds organized, and our signage up to date

Volunteer Shifts

Note: You may use the same registration for to sign up for any open shifts in Septemer. The first page of the form will collect your personal information, and you will be taken to a second page to select your shift(s).

Shift Times (these are the same on Thursday and Saturdays):

  • 1st half: 11:45 am - 2:00 pm

  • 2nd half: 2:00 pm - 4:15 pm

  • Entire shift: 11:45 am - 4:15 pm (you may sign up for both halves)

Opportunity Requirements & Important Notes:

Age Requirements: Volunteers must be at least 16 years old. Volunteers under the age of 18 must have their parent or legal guardian fill out the waiver on their behalf.

Experience Needed: No prior experience required, but you should be comfortable interacting with the public in a "customer service" type of role. Some familiarity with Solana Center is a plus. If you're new to our organization, please inform our staff upon arrival.

Prerequisites: Volunteers must review the Vounteer Requirements and the Code of Conduct portions of Solana Center's Volunteer Handbook

Physical Requirements:  The ability to lift up to 20 pounds is preferred, but not required.

Attire: Dress comfortably, wearing clothes that can handle some dirt. Closed-toe shoes are necessary. Please also consider the weather conditions, as some tasks may take place outside.

Bring: Bring a reusable water bottle and, if preferred, your own work gloves.

We invite you to join us as a "Garden Guardian", taking care of these regular tasks :

  • Watering

  • Weeding

  • Harvesting fruit

  • Other general gardening tasks as directed by staff

Volunteer Shifts

Fridays: 10:00 am - 11:30 am

Opportunity Requirements & Important Notes:

Age Requirements: Volunteers must be at least 16 years old. Volunteers under the age of 18 must have their parent or legal guardian fill out the waiver on their behalf.

Experience Needed: Basic gardening experience is appreciated.

Prerequisites: Volunteers must review the Vounteer Requirements and the Code of Conduct portions of Solana Center's Volunteer Handbook

Physical Requirements:  The ability to lift up to 20 pounds is preferred, but not required.

Attire: Dress comfortably for the weather in clothes that can get dirty. Closed toe shoes are required.

Bring: A reusable water bottle is suggested. We will have gloves available, but feel free to bring your own.

Workshop Topic: Manure Composting for Livestock Owners

Volunteer Responsibilities:

  • Set up and break down the demo site to create an engaging workshop environment.

  • Assist in advancing PowerPoint slides or managing our educational chart for seamless presentations.

  • Engage attendees in interactive activities related to the workshop topic, fostering a hands-on learning experience.

Opportunity Requirements & Important Notes:

  • Age Requirements: Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.

  • Experience Needed: Must be comfortable speaking with the public in a workshop setting.  A passion for environmental education, climate change prevention and a general understanding of the workshop topic.

  • Physical Requirements: Be ready to embrace hands-on work with worms, compost critters, and various outreach materials. You should also be able to comfortably lift up to 20 pounds.

  • Suggested Reading: If you are new to the workshop topic, follow this LINK to get an overview. 

  • Attire: Please wear comfortable clothes suitable for standing, considering the weather and event location.

  • Bring: Don't forget to bring a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated, and feel free to pack snacks for break time.
